APS is a 7 day a week Consultant led service. There is currently 1 full time Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) and 1 part-time CN who work closely with the Anaesthetists in the DAPM, the SCHHS Persistent Pain Management Service, Clinical Liaison Psychiatry and the Palliative Care Service to provide effective acute pain management for patients who have experienced traumatic injuries, undergone elective or emergency surgery, or who have acute on chronic non-malignant and malignant pain. During weekends & public holidays there is an anaesthetic registrar and a nurse on the pain round.
**Key responsibilities include**:
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the relevant standards and processes and actively identify areas for improvement, planning interventions and acting to resolve issues with an awareness of community needs (eg opioid stewardship)
- Contribute to quality health care activities and audits; accept a portfolio and participate in procedure, guideline, standard and policy development, implementation and evaluation
- Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, workplace health and safety and ethical behaviour.
