Position Description – Quality Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support civil infrastructure projects across North Queensland.
This role is ideal for a detail-driven professional with strong site-based quality management experience, including acting as a Contract Quality Representative (CQR) on civil construction projects.
You'll be responsible for ensuring all works meet compliance obligations, with a particular focus on TMR (Department of Transport & Main Roads) specifications, standards, and processes.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain project quality systems in accordance with company, client, and TMR requirements.
Act as the Contract Quality Representative (CQR) for assigned civil projects.
Develop, implement, and review Project Quality Plans, ITPs, checklists, NCRs, and corrective action processes.
Conduct inspections, surveillance, and verification of civil works including earthworks, pavements, drainage, structures, and road construction.
Manage document control for all quality records, ensuring traceability and audit readiness.
Lead quality briefings, toolbox talks, and drive continuous improvement across project teams.
Liaise with Project Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors, and TMR representatives to resolve quality issues promptly.
Support internal and external audits, ensuring close-out of findings within required timeframes.
Provide regular quality reporting for project and senior management.
Participate in risk assessments and technical reviews, integrating quality considerations into project planning.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in civil construction quality roles.
Demonstrated experience as a CQR (Contract Quality Representative) delivering civil infrastructure projects.
Strong working knowledge of TMR specifications, test methods, hold/witness points, and compliance processes.
Proven experience in road construction, drainage, earthworks, pavements, or similar civil works.
Proficiency with quality systems, audits, NCR management, and digital quality platforms.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders and regulators.
Working knowledge of safety, environmental, and construction standards.
Must be based in, or willing to permanently relocate to, Cairns or Townsville, with travel to regional project sites as required.
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant field (preferred).
Certificate IV in Civil Construction or Quality Management (desirable).
ISO **** internal auditor qualification (highly regarded).
Construction White Card.
Current Queensland driver's licence.
