Overview
NEP is Australia’s leading provider of outsourced television production services. NEP Australia is currently looking for a Product Owner to own the vision, roadmap, and delivery of an integral part of NEP’s software. You’ll partner with Broadcast Engineers, Lead Developers, the Architecture team, and NEP Australia Operations to translate complex real-time IP-broadcasting requirements into prioritized user stories, guide low-level component development and ensure our platform reduces cost and complexity. This role is based at our state-of-the-art Andrew’s HUB in Southbank, Melbourne and may require occasional weekend work depending on client requirements.
This position reports to the Platform Product Director and focuses on one of NEP’s Platform products, guiding the strategic direction and execution for our suite of low-level components—from C++ to Go-based microservices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate product vision and strategy to stakeholders.
- Responsible for creating, prioritizing, and maintaining the product backlog.
- Act as the primary liaison between Product Management and the development team.
- Provide technical direction and ensure the team understands the technical implementations of their work.
- Work closely with the Scrum Master and development team to ensure successful sprint planning and execution.
- Define and manage product release plans according to the TFC GA process.
- Monitor product performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and analytics.
Required Skills and Attributes
- 3+ years as a Product Owner or Product Manager in a software setting, ideally within the Media and entertainment landscape.
- Familiarity with broadcast/IP-based media workflows (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110, NMOS) and SDN concepts is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with microservices architectures, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Comfortable reading and writing OpenAPI/Swagger definitions and basic front-end mockups.
- Understanding of broadcast-grade orchestration requirements—device discovery, flow configuration, and real-time monitoring is a strong plus.
- Proven track record running Scrum or Kanban teams—skilled at backlog grooming, sprint planning, and agile ceremonies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication—able to translate complex technical concepts into clear requirements and presentations.
