The Australian Children’s Music Foundation (acmf.com.au) is seeking an experienced, vibrant and engaging teaching musician to deliver music lessons at the Bimberi Youth Justice Centre, for two hours per week during school terms.
About the ACMF
The Australian Children's Music Foundation (ACMF) provides free, long-term music programs and instruments to disadvantaged and Indigenous children across Australia, inspiring creativity and imagination while nurturing self-esteem and confidence. The ACMF provides children with the opportunity to learn music, encouraging a child’s natural capacity to play, learn and grow.
About the position
Working alongside centre staff at Bimberi and the Murrumbidgee school within the centre, you will be providing musical education activities and engaging children and youth who are currently in detention. You may be working with both small groups and individual students, developing instrumental skills including guitar, encouraging songwriting skills and performance abilities.
Candidates for the position should be extremely competent as both a musician and teacher. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach mainly guitar but be able to work with other musical instruments, and will need to be able to quickly adapt to the needs of children at the centre and generate material as required to encourage ongoing participation and skills development. A vibrant and engaging teaching style and the ability to generate a rapport with students is vital.
This is not just a job - it's a chance to really influence the lives of some of the most disadvantaged kids in a positive way. It can be challenging work, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
You will be required to have a valid ACT working with vulnerable people check for this position, and be able to meet any ongoing security or entry requirements of the centre. The ACMF has a child protection policy and code of conduct that applies to all contractors in child related roles.
If you have the experience and passion to enrich the lives of children through the power of music, then we’d love to hear from you!
