Law Clerk - Public Law & Regulatory Compliance

We are looking for an experienced career Law Clerk or Legal Assistant looking to progress in their career to join the Public Law & Regulatory Compliance team in Melbourne. This is a newly created position to support a busy practice in their various duties for a major client.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* General file management - including but not limited to requesting fee uplifts from the client.
* Billing tasks; prepare and review first draft of prebills and update billing schedules to keep track of billing.
* Monthly reporting to the client.
* Document preparation and management - preparing tribunal and court books.
* Draft legal templates and letters in matters for the major client and other clients, in the areas of disciplinary proceedings, prosecutions and debt recovery.
* Time recording when applicable.
* Working with Legal Assistants to oversee the entry and filing of VCAT orders into caseflow and calendar entries to ensure that key dates are met.
* Preparing witness summons and arranging services when necessary.
* Liaising with clients, principals, lawyers and staff.
* Overseeing the preparation of detailed bills and disbursement accounts.
* Providing Senior Lawyer(s) with feedback on status of work.
* Prepare meeting agendas with all upcoming court dates.
* Maintains cyber security at all times. Cultivate an awareness of security risks, stay informed of latest cyber threats, instill best cybersecurity practises and take practical steps to protect the firm and client from cyberattacks.
Skills/Knowledge
* Advanced knowledge of MS word and excel for Windows, experience with document management systems (iManage) and billing systems (Aderant).
* Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat or similar program.
* Strong skills in document management including preparation of electronic tribunal or court books.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent organisational and administrative ability.
* Working knowledge of litigation procedures in courts and tribunals is desirable.
Experience
* Minimum 3 years' experience working as a Law Clerk or Legal Assistant.
