This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional with a strong background in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and policy development. Your expertise in navigating complex government environments and providing clear, insightful advice will be instrumental in guiding the port through a dynamic policy and planning landscape.
The ideal candidate would have a strong track record in project management, stakeholder consultation, and policy formulation, capable of guiding internal teams on government processes, providing consultative support to senior leadership, and developing strong relationships with government entities at all levels.
The Principal Public Policy Advisor will support the government relations manager in the day-to-day government and ministerial interactions of the port, providing timely advice on both one-off issues and longer-term initiatives.
Key duties include:
1. Provide advice on public policy and strategy, liaising effectively with relevant external stakeholders to progress such policies.
2. Review state, commonwealth, and local government policies impacting Fremantle Ports; prepare advice and submissions as necessary.
3. Establish and maintain strong relationships with relevant government agencies and local authorities to facilitate effective planning by Fremantle Ports.
4. Review and advise on business cases to ensure alignment with corporate strategy.
5. Act as an internal conduit, representing Fremantle Ports on relevant committees, working groups, industry discussions, and negotiations.
6. Provide strategic input to port planning processes and activities within Fremantle Ports, ensuring coordinated input across the organization.
7. Prepare submissions to government entities on strategies, policies, plans, and proposed developments impacting Fremantle Ports.
Qualifications and experience:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification.
- Extensive experience in strategic planning and public policy.
- Experience engaging with government agencies, Minister's offices, and local authorities.
- Highly developed project management, presentation, and communication skills.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage staff, contractors, and consultants effectively.
- High-level negotiation and liaison skills.
