Senior Systems Engineer
Contract: 6 months with up to 2 x 6‑month extensions

About the role
A large Federal Government organisation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join its Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Operations function.
This role is critical to maintaining the safety and security of a high‑profile government environment by supporting and enhancing the ICT applications, systems, and infrastructure that underpin physical security capabilities.
Responsibilities
* Design, deploy, maintain and support mission‑critical applications and infrastructure
* Support systems underpinning PSIM, EACS, CCTV/VMS, and intercom platforms
* Provide proactive and reactive support for 24x7 operational systems
* Plan and implement patching, upgrades, firmware and configuration changes
* Support multi‑tier architectures and system integrations (APIs, event‑driven and vendor‑specific)
* Enable hardware‑to‑software connectivity for edge devices and security field equipment
* Administer application databases including backup, recovery and performance tuning
* Monitor system health, analyse logs, resolve incidents and conduct root cause analysis
* Apply secure configuration and hardening practices to meet compliance requirements
* Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation
Skills & experience
* Senior experience in systems engineering and application support
* Strong background in Windows, Azure, on‑prem and hybrid environments
* Experience with or exposure to electronic security systems (PSIM, EACS, CCTV/VMS, intercoms)
* Strong systems integration experience (APIs, event‑driven interfaces)
* Solid understanding of networks, infrastructure, databases and monitoring tools
* Ability to support complex systems in a high‑availability, time‑critical environment
Essential criteria
* Qualifications in IT (or equivalent experience)
* Proven experience supporting mission‑critical, high‑availability systems
* Strong application, infrastructure and database capability
* Integration experience including hardware‑to‑software connectivity
* Operational support, monitoring and incident management expertise
Desirable: ITIL Foundation
