Head of Governance and Risk - Australian Construction Industry Redundancy Trust
The Australian Construction Industry Redundancy Trust (ACIRT) is one of Australia's largest redundancy funds with over 95,000 members. Established in 1994, ACIRT provides a crucial safety net for workers' redundancy entitlements in the construction industry. Since inception, over $2 billion has been paid in claims and $380 million distributed in annual profits back to members. Unlike other funds, ACIRT returns all profits to members every November and charges zero fees.
ACIRT is preparing to obtain an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) from ASIC, representing a major milestone in the organisation's evolution. Reporting to the General Manager, the Head of Governance and Risk will be a critical member of the executive leadership team, leading the organisation through the AFSL application process and establishing world-class governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
Main Responsibilities
* Lead and project manage ACIRT's AFSL application, coordinating all aspects and serving as primary contact with ASIC.
* Develop comprehensive compliance frameworks under the Corporations Act 2001, AML/CTF, Privacy Act, and industrial relations laws.
* Design and implement governance frameworks, serving as Company Secretary and Responsible Manager.
* Develop enterprise-wide Risk Management Framework aligned with ISO 31000:2018 and establish internal audit programmes.
* Establish compliance management systems, deliver training, and manage breach reporting and complaints handling.
* Build and lead a high-performing governance and risk team whilst embedding risk and compliance culture.
The Person
* Tertiary qualification in law, business, finance, or related discipline with professional qualifications in governance, risk, or compliance.
* Minimum 10 years' experience in governance, risk management, and/or compliance roles, with at least 5 years at senior leadership level.
* Proven experience managing AFSL applications or working in AFSL-regulated environments.
* Deep knowledge of the Corporations Act 2001, ASIC regulatory requirements, and financial services regulation.
* Demonstrated experience establishing governance frameworks and risk management systems from the ground up.
* Strategic thinker with exceptional project management skills and ability to deliver major regulatory projects.
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare Board papers and regulatory submissions.
* Highly developed stakeholder management skills across boards, regulators, and senior executives.
* Uncompromising integrity and ethical standards with commitment to protecting workers' redundancy entitlements.
