Temporary (fixed term) full time from April 2026 to September 2026 (20 weeks). Band 7 – $110,535 plus 12% superannuation. Location: Doncaster East.

Manningham Council is seeking a suitably qualified individual for a 20‐week secondment to backfill the Strategic Fire Management Officer position while the substantive position holder undertakes an internal backfill opportunity. This role offers a valuable development opportunity for an experienced emergency or fire management professional seeking to work at a strategic and operational level, with influence across Council and strong engagement with regional and state fire management partners.

About the Role

The Strategic Fire Management Officer is responsible for leading Council's fire management planning, preparedness, mitigation and compliance functions, with a strong focus on bushfire risk across the municipality.

* Coordinating the Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee (MFMPC), Council Fire Mitigation Group and associated sub‐committees
* Leading the review, implementation and continuous improvement of the Municipal Fire Management Plan (MFMP) and associated action plans
* Providing specialist advice across Council on bushfire, structural fire and fire safety risks, informed by local, regional and state‐wide priorities
* Undertaking the statutory role of Municipal Fire Prevention Officer (MFPO), including management of Council's annual Fire Hazard Inspection Program
* Ensuring Council meets its statutory obligations under relevant emergency management and fire legislation
* Collaborating with internal service units, emergency services, agencies and the community to deliver effective fire risk reduction initiatives
* Contributing to broader emergency management arrangements, including engagement with the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) and regional fire planning forums

About You

Tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience in emergency management, fire management or a related discipline, strong working knowledge of fire management legislation, policy frameworks and contemporary practice, experience coordinating committees and leading multi‐agency or cross‐organisational initiatives, well‐developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, pro‐active community‐focused approach, ability to manage concurrent priorities, apply sound judgement and work effectively in both autonomous and collaborative environments.

* Experience in, or eligibility to undertake, the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer (MFPO) role is highly regarded.
