The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Group Managing Director, the Group Commercial Manager will oversee the full contract and commercial life‑cycle across clients and subcontractors, including; tender review, negotiation, administration, claims and close‑out, across all business units.
You will work closely with business unit leads, supporting the delivery of their projects, as well as working with our Chief Financial Officer.
Your management and oversight will ensure strong commercial outcomes, as well as developing internal processes and best-practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management
* Draft, review, negotiate and manage contracts (clients and subcontractors).
* Standardise templates and tools.
* Monitor compliance and performance against contractual obligations.
Financial Oversight
* Track contract margins, variations and cashflow.
* Prepare monthly client claims, review subcontractor claims
* Project purchase order management
* Support project forecasts, cost-to-complete estimates, and monthly board reporting.
* Implement cost control measures and optimise profitability.
* Support the implementation of new construction management system (Procore).
Claims & Disputes
* Identify contractual entitlements and prepare submissions.
* Lead negotiations and drive timely, cost‑effective resolutions.
* Liaise with legal counsel and external experts as required.
Risk & Governance
* Run risk workshops and maintain the commercial/contracts risk register.
* Ensure alignment with ISO‑certified systems.
* Develop and implement strategies to manage commercial risks.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Act as the commercial contact for clients, JV partners, subcontractors and internal project teams.
* Build and maintain strong relationships.
* Facilitate clear communication and issue resolution.
Team Leadership
* Mentor and develop internal teams and personnel across the Group with regards to contracts and commercial management.
* Build a culture of commercial excellence and knowledge‑sharing.
About You:
* Qualifications – Degree/Certifications in Law, Engineering, Construction Management, Business or similar.
* Experience – 5+ years in contracts/claims within construction, engineering, mining or energy industries.
* Skills – Deep knowledge of contract law, strong commercial acumen, advanced negotiation & dispute resolution, and advanced excel skills/ERP competence.
* Attributes – Integrity, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and the agility to juggle multiple priorities in a fast‑growing Group.
