About the opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Letters Regulation, the Senior/Principal Regulatory Modeller develops and improves Australia Post's regulatory models, provides detailed economic and financial analysis, and offers strategic advice on complex pricing issues. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to Australia Post's price notification process with the ACCC to achieve the pricing objectives for our reserved letter service.
Responsibilities
* Develop and apply analytical frameworks, build models, and conduct econometric analysis to generate robust, data‐driven insights.
* Provide economic analysis and strategic advice to support the letter business and price notification process, ensuring alignment with the pricing strategy of the reserved letter service (a $1.5bn revenue base).
* Gather data from various sources across the business (finance, network operations, letters product, retail, strategy, sales) to develop data‐driven analysis, support engagement with the ACCC, and develop evidence for the price notification process.
* Prepare and validate accurate data and regulatory models for submission to the ACCC, ensuring that all assumptions, calculations, and outputs are thoroughly validated and aligned with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
* Contribute to thought leadership on industry trends, regulatory changes, and developments in the pricing regulatory environment.
* Ensure that all relevant decisions made by the ACCC are incorporated into economic models, frameworks, and procedures, maximising commercial outcomes while maintaining regulatory compliance.
* Critically evaluate, test, and interrogate findings, positions, and materials to ensure robustness, strategic insights, and sound financial judgment.
* Support engagement with the ACCC by developing well‐supported positions and analysis that demonstrate the economic and financial justification for price notifications.
* Challenge assumptions, anticipate risks, and enhance the strategic and commercial rationale of pricing proposals.
Qualifications
* Strong financial and economic modelling skills, with the ability to critically assess regulatory models and provide data‐driven insights that inform commercial and policy decisions.
* Understanding of the principles of regulation and/or familiarity with the ACCC's pricing function (or other regulatory pricing functions).
* Detail‐oriented mindset with the ability to challenge assumptions and anticipate potential risks through critical analysis.
