Are you enthusiastic, have a passion for the environment, and are interested in becoming a Senior Environmental Officer (PO3) for the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI)?
If yes, we want to hear from you!
Environmental Officers work within the Environmental Services and Regulation (ESR) division of DETSI.
The division provides targeted, consistent, and transparent regulation that facilitates sustainable development in Queensland.
ESR proactively manages and monitors environmental risks through a modern and innovative regulatory framework, including assessment, compliance, investigation, and enforcement programs.
ESR also offers extensive frontline services both centrally and regionally.
All Environmental Officers, regardless of classification level or position title, provide services under relevant legislation such as the Environmental Protection Act 1994, Planning Act 2016, Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011, Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995, Queensland Heritage Act 1992, and other related laws.
Within ESR, Environmental Officers will undertake either assessment or compliance activities.
Assessment officers are located in specialized business centers focusing on sectors like minerals mining, coal mining, petroleum and gas, or industry and development, assessing environmental risks related to applications.
Compliance officers are based in one of 13 offices across the state, responding to incidents and complaints, inspecting high-risk sites, and assisting license holders in understanding their environmental obligations.
