Our client, a specialist engineering consultancy, is seeking a Senior Secondary Design Engineer to provide expert secondary system engineering across HV substations, wind farms, solar farms, and BESS projects. This role will see you working across the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design to construction, commissioning, and operational support.
The Role
As a Senior Secondary Design Engineer, you will:
* Lead the design and integration of protection, control, metering, SCADA, and automation systems for utility-scale renewable and HV substation projects
* Develop panel layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, and relay settings
* Conduct design reviews to ensure constructability, quality, and efficiency
* Support grid connection, feasibility, and planning studies
* Provide technical guidance during construction and commissioning
* Ensure compliance with protection coordination, communication protocols, and cybersecurity requirements
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to resolve technical issues
You will work closely with project teams, technical advisory specialists, and developers, providing a trusted engineering perspective at all stages of the project.
What We're Looking For
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
* 10+ years' experience in secondary systems design for HV substations and renewable energy projects
* Expertise in protection, control, metering, and automation systems
* Strong experience with electrical design and protection study software (ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or similar)
* Proven ability to develop and interpret single-line diagrams (SLDs) and protection philosophies
* Excellent knowledge of Australian Standards and international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI)
* Familiarity with testing, commissioning, and generator/customer connection processes (desirable)
* Chartered or eligibility for Engineers Australia (EA), RPEV, or RPEQ.
