Technical skills, abilities, and cultural capability
* Substantial knowledge of contemporary forensic sciences professional standards, service delivery requirements and management techniques, including knowledge and understanding of quality systems and national accreditation programs (NATA / ISO accreditation).
* Demonstrated experience in the leadership and management of teams in a forensic science and / or quality assurance environment.
* Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience, with proven ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise tasks to achieve project outcomes.
* Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, and verbal and written ability to impart specialist knowledge to diverse groups.
* Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction and constructively manage client / stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes for clients, stakeholder, and the Department.
* Proven experience in forensic science and laboratory practice, and experience in developing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures in accordance with the legislation, regulations and standards that apply to a multidisciplinary laboratory organisation.
* Proven ability to coordinate the implementation of contemporary and innovative scientific processes, procedures and concepts and to encourage their application and acceptance by staff and clients.
Working relationships
This role interacts with internal stakeholders across the entire department and external government entities.

Qualifications and conditions
* The successful applicant must hold a tertiary degree in science with a major in biology / chemistry (depending on the role applied for).
* Relevant post-graduate qualifications in biology / chemistry (depending on the role applied for) are highly desirable.
