The Role
Reporting to the Director Health Information and Research Ethics, the Assistant Director Health Data Management will be responsible for:
* Building and leading an integrated workforce of APS and contracted staff, ensuring understanding of and compliance with data governance and quality requirements.
* Coordinating the effective workflow of the data management team, including communication of standards and requirements to ensure appropriate extraction and curation of data, triage and prioritisation of data requests to support analytics projects and strategic operational goals, and liaising with stakeholders to translate data requests from business areas into health domain search queries.
* Providing input into the governance of the health domain (health data warehouse), including the systems for collecting, storing and managing health data; assessing, evaluating and improving data quality; management of data incidents; and maintenance of technical documentation, policy and procedures to support these activities.
* Prepare correspondence, reports, and briefs relating to data holdings.
About our Team
Joint Health Command (JHC) makes a direct contribution to operational capability of the Australian Defence Force through the delivery of reliable, resilient, affordable and best practice health services. The Health Data Management Team (HDM) supports these activities by enabling data driven decision making at all levels of the organisation through report development and insight generation, utilising data from Defence's electronic health record and other linked sources.
The HDM is responsible for health data stewardship including applying legislative frameworks and best practice standards relating to data collection, storage, use and security; and governance of the health information domain including the systems for collecting storing, and managing data; and data quality and assurance.
Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* The ability to work with considerable independence in a leadership role managing an integrated workforce and maintain performance in a dynamic work environment.

* The ability to engage in complex problem solving.
* Business analysis expertise: working with stakeholders to identify business issues; business process mapping; translating stakeholder health data queries into data needs and health domain searches; and evaluating and recommending solutions.
* Knowledge and experience in health data stewardship, including experience applying legislative frameworks; policy and best practice standards relating to data collection, storage, use and security.
* Knowledge and experience of health information governance, including: systems for collecting, storing and managing health data; health data quality; management of data exposure risk and data incidents; and maintaining technical documentation and policy and procedures to support these activities.
* Developer or end user experience with reporting tools such as Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, Cloudera CDB or similar.
