The role

StarVac Systems is a specialist engineering company focused on advanced and proprietary vacuum packaging technology for the red meat processing industry. We design, manufacture and support highly specialised equipment incorporating patented technologies and ongoing R&D developments, working closely with leading food processors across Australia and internationally. Our systems are engineered to deliver significant improvements in efficiency, labour optimisation and product quality within demanding production environments.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and versatile Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Technician with a strong background in vacuum packaging systems. This is a specialist, hybrid technical and customer-facing role, combining hands‐on engineering expertise with the ability to support customer technical consultations and solution development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation, commissioning and optimisation of advanced vacuum packaging systems
  • Troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and vacuum system components
  • Providing critical on‐site breakdown support to key customers
  • Supporting ongoing R&D, testing and engineering improvements
  • Acting as a technical interface between customers, engineering teams and management
  • Supporting customer technical consultations and solution development
  • Training and mentoring customer personnel
  • Coordinating with international engineering teams, including European operations

Operational Requirements of the Role

Our customers operate in continuous production environments (2-3 shifts per day), where equipment uptime is critical. As a result, this role requires:

  • Availability for occasional out-of-hours support, including weekends where required
  • Willingness to travel at short notice to customer sites across Australia
  • A high level of commitment to customer service continuity and rapid response in critical situations

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong preference for experience within vacuum packaging systems or closely related specialised food processing equipment
  • Demonstrated hands‐on expertise with vacuum packaging machinery and vacuum systems
  • Strong mechanical and electrical technical knowledge in industrial environments
  • Proven experience in installation, commissioning and servicing of specialised equipment
  • Solid understanding of hygienic design standards within food processing environments
  • Ability to operate independently in high‐demands production settings
  • Strong communication skills across technical teams and senior management
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Australia

Role‐Specific Requirement

  • Direct and recent experience within vacuum packaging systems or closely related specialised equipment
  • The ability to contribute effectively without reliance on extended training
  • Proven capability to work with advanced, customised and high-performance machinery

Additional Role Requirement - Technical Integration

  • Ability to support technical consultations and solution discussions
  • Confidence interacting with stakeholders at all levels, from plant operators to senior management
  • Capability to translate technical requirements into practical and commercially viable solutions
  • Flexibility to transition between service delivery and customer-facing technical activities

  • Experience working with proprietary or confidential engineering systems
  • A strong track record of professional integrity, reliability and accountability
  • Ability to manage sensitive technical information responsibly
  • Capability to build trusted, long-term relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Commitment to continuity in customer support and project delivery

Highly Regarded

  • Experience with advanced vacuum packaging machinery
  • Exposure to automation, robotics or integrated production systems
  • Experience working with international engineering teams
  • German language skills (advantageous due to collaboration with European operations)

Pay

$95,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year

Education

  • Certificate I - IV (required)

Experience

  • Mechanical troubleshooting: 4 years (required)
  • Engineering experience in vacuum packaging: 3 years (required)

Licence/Certification

  • Driving license (required)

Willingness to travel

50% (required)
