Naval Architecture Specialist

Austal is a leading global shipbuilder and Defence prime contractor, designing, constructing, and supporting defence and commercial vessels for top operators. The company operates in multiple countries.

A landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) was signed with the Commonwealth of Australia, marking a new era of continuous naval shipbuilding within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia.

As Australia's Strategic Shipbuilder, Austal will deliver eighteen Landing Craft Medium and eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels for the Australian Army. This partnership will drive growth across the industry and workforce, as Austal delivers existing and future programs under a long-term agreement.

To support this growth, a highly skilled team is being built to engage with local industry and supply chains, contributing to complex, large-scale projects that reflect Austal's proven capabilities and trusted performance.


About the Opportunity

A Naval Architecture Specialist is needed to join the Design team in Melbourne, WA. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Naval Architect with excellent communication skills and a high level of commitment to assist with project design.


Key Responsibilities

* Design vessel local and global structure, equipment foundations, hydrostatic and stability calculations, resistance, and powering calculations.
* Prepare design and drawings, including calculations and reports.
* Select and requisition hull, fire, and safety equipment.
* Design according to technical requirements and Austal processes for safety, quality, budget, and risk mitigation.
* Provide design support throughout production, commissioning, and delivery.


Requirements

Skills and Experience:

* Hold a Construction safety induction.
* Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture.
* Proven experience in vessel design and regulatory compliance.
* Proficient in Microsoft office, Maxsurf, and FEA software.
* Five years' experience in ship design and construction.
* Experience in designing Naval platforms.
