About The Opportunity

The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is seeking a passionate and practical maritime professional to join our Maritime Operations and Coastal Seafaring team as an Associate Lecturer in Seafaring.

This role is ideal for an experienced near‐coastal seafarer who enjoys mentoring others and is ready to transition ashore into education. As a practice‐based facilitator of learning, you will support students to develop the skills, confidence and professionalism needed to succeed in the maritime industry.

You will deliver theory and hands‐on training across deck, engineering and safety subjects, using a mix of classroom learning, simulators, live plant and vessel environments. The role includes curriculum and assessment development, marking and moderation, and contributing to continuous improvement in teaching delivery.

While based in Launceston, this role involves regular teaching across AMC campuses, with opportunities for field trips, industry engagement and occasional interstate travel.

What You'll Do

* Safely co‐coordinate and conduct lectures, tutorials, practical classes, workshops, field excursions and assessments in both in‐person and online environments, prioritising positive student experience.
* Develop training and assessment resources suitable for both face‐to‐face and online delivery and undertake moderation of these resources.
* Contribute to the professional development and curriculum development (scholarship) outputs of the AMC's Centre for Seafaring and Maritime Operations.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and the wider community.

What We're Looking For

* A demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment, using excellent interpersonal skills.
* A demonstrated ability to prepare and conduct training using a range of innovative and flexible delivery and assessment methods, and to prepare and conduct curriculum, teaching and training, practical classes, field excursions and assess student achievement.
* Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills.
* A strong record of relevant sea service.

Qualifications And Licences

* An Australian issued Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 near‐coastal certificate of competency (CoC) or higher CoC, and relevant sea service.
* A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or the ability and willingness to obtain within six months of commencement), and experience in vocational education and training (VET) teaching and assessment.
* A current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration (or the ability and willingness to obtain before commencement).
* A current Australian C class driver licence.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $125,877 comprising base salary within the range of $83,198 to $107,587 plus 17% superannuation.
