The Role

The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavor for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia's economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

The Director Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Programs and Delivery will provide strategic leadership, policy direction and governance for ASA's international and domestic technical training and education portfolio that builds Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) for the nuclear-powered submarine program career pathways.

The Director will operate with considerable independence to deliver programs of strategic significance, advise senior leaders, lead multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks.

Our mission is to shape, grow and sustain the specialised technical skills that will power Australia's nuclear-powered submarine program for generations. Working shoulder to shoulder with partners across ASA, Australian Government and internationally, we are helping to build a world-class technical workforce of curious, capable and committed professionals. * Deep understanding of technical training systems, curriculum design, digital learning, competency frameworks and training assurance within complex or regulated environments.
* Experience leading education and training portfolios of strategic or political significance, preferably across defence, national security, or nuclear sectors.
* High-level capability to lead complex international training and education programs, manage agreements, monitor outcomes and ensure data integrity.
* Strong governance acumen including risk management, compliance, funding stewardship, audit readiness and legislative/public policy awareness.
* Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement, oversee program assurance and deliver results under uncertainty.
* Capacity to coach, mentor and empower staff while managing performance fairly and effectively.
* Demonstrated commitment to APS Values, ethical leadership and transparency in decision?making.
* Sound judgement, political awareness and the ability to provide forthright, evidence?based advice in sensitive or ambiguous environments.
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft complex briefs, submissions and executive reporting to inform decision?making.
* Ability to adapt communication for diverse audiences, translate complex technical concepts, and negotiate persuasively on issues of national significance.
