At Carousel Ice Cream, we don't just serve ice cream—we serve happiness, one scoop at a time.About the PositionWe are seeking an experienced and proactive Retail Manager to lead the daily operations of one of our ice cream parlours.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a high level of autonomy, responsibility, and strategic oversight.
The ideal candidate will bring retail and food industry experience, excellent leadership capabilities, and a customer-focused approach to help grow the brand and uphold our high standards.
The role will involve managing staff, financial targets, customer service quality, stock, compliance, and promotional activities.Reporting StructureReports to: Director / Business Owner – Carousel Ice Cream Pty LtdSupervises: Retail Assistants, Shift Leaders, Store Crew MembersKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)Achievement of monthly sales and profitability targetsCustomer satisfaction ratings and review scoresStaff retention and developmentInventory turnover and minimisation of wasteCompliance with food safety and OH&S requirementsSuccessful execution of promotional activitiesKey ResponsibilitiesOversee and direct daily retail operations, ensuring seamless execution of store activities, adherence to brand standards, and consistent delivery of a premium customer experience.Formulate and manage inventory control strategies, including forecasting stock requirements, optimising product mix, and ensuring timely procurement of ice cream products, toppings, and retail supplies to meet demand while minimising wastage.Design and implement marketing and promotional initiatives, leveraging seasonal trends, local campaigns, digital engagement, and in-store promotions to maximise brand visibility and drive foot traffic.Develop competitive pricing strategies, balancing profitability with customer value perception, and regularly reviewing sales data to inform pricing and discount decisions.Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and continuous development of store personnel, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and teamwork while ensuring compliance with employment standards and company policies.Establish and monitor performance benchmarks, conduct regular staff evaluations, and implement training programs to elevate service standards and operational efficiency.Manage operational budgets and financial reporting, including monitoring of profit margins, analysing sales trends, controlling expenses, and preparing regular financial and operational reports for senior management.Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, health codes, and occupational health and safety standards, overseeing the implementation of sanitation protocols and conducting regular audits to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.Address escalated customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism and diplomacy, implementing corrective actions where necessary and promoting continuous service improvement based on customer feedback.Maintain supplier relationships and negotiate contracts, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and cost-effectiveness across the supply chain.Uphold the brand identity and presentation of the store, overseeing visual merchandising, cleanliness, and in-store ambience to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.Contribute to strategic planning, offering insights on sales performance, customer preferences, operational bottlenecks, and competitive positioning to inform long-term business decisions.Required Skills & QualificationsDiploma or higher qualification in Business, Retail, Hospitality Management, or a related field is highly beneficial but not mandatory.Minimum of 1+ years of full-time relevant experience in a retail.Proven experience in managing retail operations, team supervision, and customer service excellence.Personal AttributesStrong leadership and staff management skillsExcellent organisational and time management abilitiesPassion for customer service and food qualityAbility to work in a high-paced environmentCommercial acumen with understanding of sales, costs, and profitabilityHigh attention to detail in presentation, cleanliness, and hygieneWillingness to work weekends, evenings, and peak trading periodsAbout UsCarousel Ice Cream is one of Australia's most exciting and fastest-growing dessert and gelato chains, known for its premium ingredients, vibrant store atmosphere, and constantly evolving flavours.
