Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Platform Engineer with strong Python and 3D processing experience to take ownership of our core processing framework. This is not a typical backend, frontend or data engineering role. You will work at the heart of the platform, building and evolving the algorithms and frameworks that power Abyss' inspection systems at scale.
You Have Must haves
* 5+ years experience in platform, processing or computational engineering roles
* Strong Python with deep comfort using NumPy for performance-critical processing
* Proven ability to reason about 3D data such as point clouds, photogrammetry, image morphology or similar
* Solid understanding of cloud fundamentals and how cloud infrastructure supports large-scale processing
* Experience working in Linux environments
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Nice to haves
* Experience with Docker and containerised workflows
* Exposure to GCP or AWS
* CI/CD experience and good software engineering hygiene
* Experience with tools such as Ray, Prefect or MongoDB
* Background in computer vision, robotics, scientific computing or simulation
You Will
* Own and extend a Python-based processing framework and its core algorithms
* Improve performance, reliability and scalability of critical processing pipelines
* Work closely with DevOps, 3D web architecture and machine learning teams
* Collaborate with offshore engineers and help establish effective delivery rhythms
* Contribute to system design decisions as the platform evolves
What success looks like In the first 90 days, you will
* Be fully onboarded into the platform architecture and processing framework
* Take ownership of core components previously owned by a departing engineer
* Establish strong working relationships across Sydney and offshore teams
* Ship meaningful improvements or fixes into production
By 12 months, you will
* Own a stable, scalable and well-documented core processing framework
* Have measurably improved throughput, quality or reliability
* Be a trusted technical partner across platform and ML teams
* Have reduced key-person risk in this part of the system

You will report to James Forner, Engineering Manager.
You will work closely with:
* Platform, DevOps and 3D web engineers
* Senior machine learning engineers
* An offshore engineering team based in Pakistan
