Job Description
Griffith Review is a strategic and high-profile engagement initiative of Griffith University, a quarterly literary and current affairs journal published new work from established and emerging writers and thinkers in print and online.
The Senior Editor works alongside the Editor and Editorial Assistant of Griffith Review, and supports the objectives of the publication by editing (structural and copy) material for print and online publication, managing the journal's print production process, preparing content for marketing purposes and supporting other activities as required.
Throughout the publication process, the Senior Editor will liaise with Griffith Review staff, contributors, external and internal stakeholders and suppliers.
The Senior Editor will work with the Griffith Review team to determine website content, marketing strategies and special projects, contributing to a dynamic publication and events program.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake copyediting and proofreading for the print and online iterations of Griffith Review, and for special projects as required, in line with established procedures, policies and schedules.
* Manage the typesetting and print production for the journal's quarterly editions, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
* Communicate with contributors professionally, sensitively and in a timely manner.
* Support the Editor and Editorial Assistant in reviewing and assessing submissions received for print and online call-outs.
* Oversee management of the Griffith Review website, including the upload of new edition content, in consultation with the General Manager and team members.
* Prepare précis of print and online content, and draft marketing copy in line with publication schedules.
* Source images for print and online use, ensuring all rights and permissions are secured.
About you
The successful candidate will hold a degree in writing, editing and publishing, journalism, professional communication, creative writing or related field, with subsequent experience in a print production, editorial, online, digital, design or publishing environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training.
* Demonstrated experience copyediting and proofreading long- and short-form content for print and online, applying established style guides, house style and workflows to deadline.
* Strong command of grammar, structure and tone, with meticulous attention to detail and factual accuracy.
* Experience liaising with contributors, authors and partners with tact and clarity, including handling sensitive edits and meeting competing deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience sourcing images for print and digital use, including negotiating or securing rights and permissions, managing credits, and ensuring compliance with copyright and licensing requirements.
* Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple concurrent deadlines across quarterly cycles, with strong organisational skills and proactive risk management.
* Commitment to editorial excellence, collaborative practice, and respectful, inclusive engagement with contributors and colleagues.

This is a fixed term (12 months), 60% part-time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane City (South Bank) Graduate Centre. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University's campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
The full-time equivalent base salary for a HEW Level 6 is in the range $94,966 - $101,295 per annum, plus 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $111,110 - $118,515 per annum.
