Department Of Education
USD 90,000 - USD 120,000 a year

Offer description

An exciting opportunity exists for a strategic, innovative, and relational leader to join our senior leadership team as Deputy Principal at West Moreton Education and Training Centre (WMETC). We are seeking a dynamic leader to help drive the school's improvement journey, with a strong focus on maximising student learning time and expanding
opportunities for students post-detention.

If you are a visionary educational leader who values collaboration and is passionate about creating whole-school impact, apply now to be part of a team making a real difference in students' lives.

About the School

Queensland Education and Training Centre (QETC) is a multi-campus Department of Education school supporting young people in Brisbane's Youth Detention Centres. Serving students on remand or in custody, QETC provides tailored education that equips learners with the skills, knowledge, and values to make positive life choices. Campuses include BYETC, West Moreton, Wacol, Caboolture, and Vocational Training Queensland.

About the Role

As the Deputy Principal, you will report directly to the Head of Campus and play a central role in the day-to-day leadership and operations of the school, supporting the implementation of the school's improvement agenda aligned with the vision of "Unlocking Learning." In this operationally focused leadership role, you will bring a strong commitment to school improvement and closing educational equity gaps, alongside well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. You will demonstrate the ability to think and act strategically, lead with integrity, compassion, and accountability, and draw on experience in managing both operational and instructional priorities within complex or diverse educational settings.

Your Responsibilities

As the Deputy Principal, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

* Assist the Principal to lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
* Deputise for the Principal when required.
* Uphold the deputy principalship as a values based, ethical and moral activity.
* Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
* Lead the development and implementation of effective and responsive timetabling systems to optimise student achievement.
* Drive school-wide initiatives that support student wellbeing, behaviour, and post-detention pathways.
* Foster and maintain strong partnerships with inter-agency stakeholders and community organisations to support and enhance educational delivery within the detention setting.
* Deliver a key strategic leadership portfolio as part of a cohesive and supportive senior leadership team.

Please refer to the attached role description for the full list of responsibilities and mandatory requirements for this position.

This position is based at Queensland's newest youth detention centre—a purpose-built 32-bed facility—at West Moreton Education and Training Centre.

To support ongoing student engagement and address learning gaps, funding has been approved for education delivery over 48 weeks of the year. This model aligns Queensland with best practices across other Australian jurisdictions. While this extended delivery model supports improved student outcomes, employment entitlements remain unchanged, and flexible work arrangements are available. In consultation with the Head of Campus, the successful applicant can negotiate access to either the regular or an alternative school holiday model.
