**THE ROLE**:
The Simplified Trade System (STS) is a whole-of-government reform agenda to simplify trade for Australian businesses. Since 2021, the STS has delivered a coordinated program of incremental regulatory, process and digital improvements for businesses.
Based in Austrade, the STS Unit is responsible for coordinating and driving STS reforms from 1 July 2024. This builds on the substantial foundation built by the STS Implementation Taskforce working with agency partners from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2024.
The STS Unit works with Australian businesses and across government to have a real, positive impact on Australian businesses, government and the community. Our work aims to create a simpler, more effective and sustainable cross-border trade environment for Australia. The STS Unit delivers the following core functions:
- Strategy and policy
- Evaluation and portfolio oversight
- Regulatory Reform
The APS6 Trade Evaluation Advisor supports the critical function of evaluating and monitoring the cross-border trade system to assess the effectiveness and impact of STS reforms on enhancing Australia's trade system. The Trade Evaluation Advisor assists in the administration of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework, ensuring that the reforms are delivering intended improvements.
**DUTIES INCLUDE**:
- Assisting in the development and implementation of a robust monitoring and evaluation framework that accurately assesses the impact and effectiveness of STS reforms on Australia's trade system. This includes ensuring that all evaluation activities are designed to provide actionable insights that support the continuous improvement and strategic direction of the STS reform.
- Conducting comprehensive economic analysis, including cost-benefit analysis and financial modelling, to evaluate the financial viability and impact of STS reform projects and make recommendations to increase benefits realisation and improvement.
- Undertaking analysis of the cross-border trade system, project and program activities and risk assessments. Providing insightful, data-driven analysis to the Senior Advisor, Trade Evaluation to facilitate informed decision-making and strategic alignment of the STS reform initiatives.
- Supporting the STS plan to implement, monitor and report on evaluation activities, providing advice to internal and external stakeholders enabling engagement, buy-in and quality data analysis.
- Contributing to a high-performing team environment that encourages innovation, problem-solving and a digital-first approach to achieving the STS Unit's objectives.
- Managing competing priorities, having involvement in a range of projects and initiatives, and meeting requests for advice and assistance to ensure outcomes are achieved and the needs of stakeholders are met.
