**The Role**
The Manager, Governance is a critical position within the Executive Team and is responsible for overseeing governance functions, parliamentary, Council secretariat and executive support for Assistant Directors (Branch Heads). The position requires an extensive knowledge of policy and legislation governing the operation of a corporate government entity, excellent organisation, time-management, leadership and interpersonal skills suited to a quick paced environment, and a high level of discretion.
The role reports to the Assistant Director, (Branch Head) Corporate Services and works closely with the Director’s Office, Assistant Directors Public Programs and National Collection, Chief Finance Officer, Chief Information Officer and other senior staff.
This position will initially be filled for 3 months, with the possibility of an extension.
The Manager, Governance will be energetic and motivated in their support of the Memorial’s strategic and operational objectives. They will have a strategic focus, exercise excellent judgement and be flexible, reliable and resilient. They will be able to tackle complex problems finding solutions that work for the Memorial and its stakeholders.
The Manager, Governance’s core capabilities include planning, prioritisation, and collaboration, in addition to influential communication and an ability to manage a range of functions concurrently. Effective leadership and building a cohesive Executive Support Team is critical to the role’s success.
**Core Responsibilities**
- Leading governance functions across the Memorial including:
- development of the annual Corporate Plan, Business Plan, Annual Report, Portfolio Budget Statements and other performance reporting requirements;
- oversight and operations relating to the Memorial’s freedom of information (FOI) activities, Privacy Management Plan, compliance, assurance, risk management, fraud and corruption management functions;
- Effective management of the Executive Support Team through the provision of leadership, advice and support to deliver core functions including:
- co-ordination of reports and submissions to the Corporate Management Group, Council or the Minister;
- parliamentary services and secretariat to Council
- leadership and management of the team, including personnel management and budget administration;
- oversight of continuous improvement of administrative processes and systems to reduce duplication and increase efficiencies.
- Develop effective and productive working relationships across the organisation and with relevant external parties to achieve the corporate governance and executive support functions above.
**Position Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to AWM that are offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a National Police Check, even if they currently hold a security clearance. The check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
