Roles and responsibilities
1. Apply master-level maritime expertise in navigation, vessel operations and command when attending vessels and terminals, in accordance with international conventions and Australian maritime law.
2. Travel to Australian ports to undertake vessel attendance, operational assessments, inspections and representation services for shipowners, operators and terminal stakeholders.
3. Plan, oversee and assess voyage and port call safety, including passage planning, cargo loading and discharging activities, stowage planning and ship-shore interface management, to ensure safe and efficient marine operations.
4. Supervise and coordinate cargo operations during terminal activities, including liaison with terminal personnel, monitoring cargo transfer operations, verifying cargo documentation and ensuring compliance with terminal procedures and safety requirements.
5. Direct and assess crew management activities, including watchkeeping arrangements, onboard operational planning and identification of training and competency requirements following inspections and attendances.
6. Oversee and support pre-purchase, pre-loading and condition surveys in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
7. Conduct AMSA and Flag State readiness inspections and undertake documentation reviews to ensure vessels are prepared for regulatory inspections and compliance assessments.
8. Verify vessel safety, operational and environmental compliance in accordance with ISM, MLC, MARPOL, SOLAS and applicable Australian Marine Orders.
9. Prepare professional operational, inspection and compliance reports relating to vessel safety, navigation and regulatory readiness, including findings from inspections and operational assessments.
10. Represent the Company and its clients in communications with port authorities, terminal operators, regulatory bodies and vessel management teams.
Skills and Qualifications:
· AMSA Class 1 (Master / Deck) Certificate of Competency (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
and
· Degree qualification in maritime, logistics, naval architecture, engineering or shipping business (mandatory if Class 1 certificate is not held) from an internationally recognised institution
Experience:
· Minimum one (1) year blue water vessel senior officer sailing experience on tankers, bulk carriers or offshore support vessels
Additional Requirements:
· Current MSIC
· Valid Australian Driver's Licence
· Willingness to travel and be based in regional ports as required

Pay: $120,000.00 – $145,000.00 per year
