Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

The Access Transmission Team designs, plans, and manages capacity for the Optus Mobile Access Transport Network, including cell site routers and microwave links, ensuring reliable delivery of mobile services through detailed design, testing, and implementation. This role provides technical leadership across IP modernisation, resiliency, and RAN initiatives to deliver a robust, resilient, and future‐ready metro and regional transport network.

Your day to day will consist of

* Lead CSR deployment across metro and regional networks, ensuring delivery aligns with schedules and applying dual‐homing and optimised aggregation to minimise outage risk.
* Own technical planning for Greenfield, IBC, Stay Alive, and 5G Upgrade programs, translating RAN requirements into end‐to‐end transmission delivery and modernisation plans.
* Identify transmission dependencies and coordinate new builds or upgrades to enable timely, resilient mobile network expansion.
* Act as senior escalation point for fault resolution and performance optimisation, ensuring high network resiliency and service continuity.
* Drive automation, process optimisation, and engineering improvements to deliver future‐ready and robust connectivity.
* Work closely with leadership, Network Deployment, Operations, IP Transport teams, and Access Network Planning to align strategy, execute AOP programs, and improve customer experience.

What makes you perfect for the role

* Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering with 5–7 years' experience in telecoms design, planning, or provisioning roles.
* Strong engineering knowledge across mobile access transport technologies, particularly Microwave and Fibre Transmission, with experience delivering large‐scale telco networks.
* Ability to assess business impacts of technical solutions, perform trade‐offs, and support TCO development for new opportunities.
* Solid troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify, own, and resolve issues efficiently.
* Minimum 3 years' experience leading technical teams; self‐driven, proactive, and able to work autonomously while exercising sound judgement.
* Effective communicator able to engage technical and non‐technical stakeholders, build strong cross‐functional relationships, and ensure on‐time delivery.
* Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency with the ability to develop complex capacity forecasting models.

What's in it for you?

* Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
* Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected' days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever's important to you.
* We support growing families with inclusive, carer‐neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
* Direct your own development and build future‐ready skills with Optus U's industry‐focused micro‐credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
* Build meaningful connections through employee‐led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
* Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in‐person, by phone, SMS, or video.

We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
