Are you a passionate educator committed to making a positive difference to the engagement, wellbeing, and achievement outcomes of disengaged secondary students?
The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) is seeking to establish a pool of Teachers - Engagement for their Midland Learning Academy (MLA) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise from Term 2, 2026 and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within this period.

Note:
This position is being advertised as part of a recruitment pilot designed to simplify the application process for teachers. A mandatory CV template is provided for use. Application requirements include character limited responses to address only 2 Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) domains at application stage. The remaining AITSL domain will be assessed as part of the further assessment stage, for shortlisted applicants only.

SSEN:BE - Midland Learning Academy
The Midland Learning Academy (MLA) is a small, specialist secondary school (Year 7-12) delivering a high-quality public education for students who are experiencing significant challenges to their engagement in a traditional (mainstream) school setting. At MLA we offer personalised learning experiences and holistic wrap-around supports to successfully re-engage young people with their chosen education, training, or employment pathways. Students are referred to MLA directly from schools, the education regions or through other Statewide Services pathways and specialist schools.

MLA staff work in partnership with the young person and their caregivers to develop personalised pathway plans which incorporate targeted learning and wellbeing needs which are reviewed collaboratively each term. MLA is a child-safe organisation where all members of the school community actively promote the safety and wellbeing of all students, and all school staff are committed to enacting their legal obligations according to national child safety standards.

The Role
At MLA, we are seeking teachers who ideally;

* Are culturally responsive, restorative, and trauma wise in both their thinking and practice.
* Engage in critical reflection to improve their knowledge and skills. Teachers demonstrate a willingness to work with an instructional coach and engage in fortnightly supervision discussions. They convey a "growth mindset" and use multiple sources of feedback on their classroom practice to inform their professional learning goals.
* Have a deep understanding of the impact of significant adversity and trauma on student engagement, learning and wellbeing outcomes.
* Display unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness in their relationships with young people and all members of the school community.
* Work effectively as part of a team supporting the young person. There is an expectation that all teachers work in collaboration with other teachers and with wellbeing and learning support staff, to provide quality outcomes for students.
* Display highly impactful teaching strategies across mixed ages, abilities, and subject areas to maximise engagement, wellbeing and ultimately achieve personalised student outcomes. This includes the provision of targeted support for students with specific learning needs, including those who require academic extension.
* Are aware of the diverse pathways available to senior secondary students and demonstrate flexibility in the delivery of those courses.

* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
