We’re shaping data platforms that power Australia’s future banking You have end-to-end ownership of resilient, high-scale data pipelines Together we deliver trusted, production-grade data for critical decisions Do work that matters : We're building tomorrow’s bank today, which means we need creative and diverse engineers to help us redefine what customers expect from a bank. Envisioning new technologies that are still waiting to be invented and reimagining products that support our customers and help build Australia’s future economy. At a Staff System Engineer level, you play a pivotal role in shaping both the technical direction and operational excellence of this platform. You lead the strategy for DSO-centric data pipelines, optimising how data is modelled, transformed, and processed to meet performance and reliability demands. You remain hands-on in solving complex data and production issues, whether it is resolving delta inconsistencies, tuning long-running loads, or improving failure recovery patterns. You establish engineering standards across ETL design, data quality, and release practices, while mentoring engineers to build deep expertise in data pipelines and operational data engineering. Beyond delivery, you own the runtime, driving incident and problem management, governing change through controlled releases, and ensuring the platform operates as a resilient, production-grade system that the business can depend on. See yourself in our team: The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53.000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers. The BI ETL – BILoad team sits within the Operations Delivery function of the Core Accounts services Crew, owning the critical data pipelines that power some of the bank’s most important operational and regulatory reporting. A core focus of the team is SAP core banking based data engineering, designing and running data flows built on standard, write-optimised. This means managing high-volume, business-critical data through layered transformations, handling complex delta mechanisms, ensuring data consistency across inbound, active, and change log tables, and enabling reliable reconciliation and auditability. The team is responsible for ensuring that data is not only delivered, but delivered correctly, repeatedly, and at scale. Their work underpins downstream analytics, financial reporting, and compliance processes, where accuracy, lineage, and recoverability are essential. We’re interested in hearing from people who: Own end-to-end Core Banking data pipeline delivery: design, build, and optimise DSO-based data flows with strong focus on data correctness, delta handling, and recoverability in production environments. Lead complex data transformation and enrichment: implement and review advanced transformation logic, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and alignment with business rules while guiding engineers on best practices. Drive data integration and platform interoperability: design reliable ingestion patterns across SAP and non-SAP systems, ensuring consistency, reconciliation, and efficient movement of large-scale data. Ensure production stability and performance: proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise data loads and queries; lead root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring data or system issues. Establish engineering standards and delivery practices: define patterns for ETL design, error handling, testing, and release management; uplift team capability through code reviews, mentoring, and hands-on guidance. Enable automation and continuous delivery: build and improve CI/CD pipelines, automate operational workflows, and reduce manual intervention across data and platform operations. Lead operational excellence and service ownership: manage incidents, problems, and change processes end-to-end; coordinate releases, ensure platform reliability, and coach teams on running highly available, production-grade data systems Tech skills We don't expect you to know everything, but experience in several of the following will set you up for success: Data Platforms: Teradata / Snowflake / DBT (SQL, BTEQ, FastLoad, MultiLoad), IBM DataStage (parallel, sequence jobs). Scheduling : Autosys / Airflow (job scheduling, workload automation). OS & Scripting: Unix/AIX (Bash/Ksh, cron, file systems), Python, SQL. DevOps & CI/CD: CTS, gCTS, Git, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins. AWS Data Engineering & ITSM : S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Lambda, ServiceNow (SNOW), ITIL (Incident, Problem, Change/CAB).
