Primary objective

Lead and provide timely strategic evidence-based advice to influence key industry sectors, Territory businesses and regional stakeholders

to invest in place-based local workforce development initiatives. Enabling economic potential in our regions, getting more Territorians into

work and off welfare, including empowering Aboriginal people to participate in remote workforce and business enterprise.

Context statement

The Business and Regions division within the Department supports the sustainable growth, capability, resilience and competitiveness of

the Territory's business community. Growing a skilled, capable and flexible workforce that meets the Northern Territory's current and

future needs.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Play a key leadership role in gathering and analysing business and industry intelligence to design and implement tailored workforce

strategies and initiatives that reflect the economic, cultural and social need of the specific region and community.

2. Actively build and manage partnerships, and networks, with internal and external stakeholders, to drive strategic, collaborative and

innovative thinking to negotiate solutions and opportunities for the regions to resolve complex intergenerational issues while

supporting government policy and initiatives in relation to remote workforce development.

1. Initiate, prepare and provide high quality strategic advice and evidence-based analysis, in coordinating briefings, submissions and other

correspondence on strategic workforce priorities that impact the region, informing policy development and government on workforce

development situations, initiatives and opportunities.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven ability to work with Territory businesses and key industry sectors to embed workforce planning and development practices.

Including demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to develop practical and innovative solutions that increase workforce

capacity and capability, aligned to regional economic and sector-specific priorities.

1. Highly developed strategic management skills with an ability to respond to changing priorities and situations, meet deadlines, show

professional judgement and deliver results through effective management of the limited regional budgets and resources across the

Territory.

1. Highly effective negotiation and communication skills to meet the requirements of a wide range of audiences to provide clear and

considered advice, with proven ability to prepare high-level briefings, Ministerial correspondence and submissions as required.

1. A working knowledge and understanding of the Territory's multi-cultural, social and business environment, including the ability to

recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to effectively negotiate and consult in a culturally

appropriate manner.

1. An extensive knowledge of organisational, financial, business, people and resource management principles and practices, including

demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability in project management with the ability to consult and interpret the economic, political,

social and commercial environment.

1. Comprehensive understanding of local priorities needs and issues, including the ability to analyse and develop initiatives and programs

that support the development of skilled workers in the region.

Desirable

1. A current, or the ability to acquire, a NT "C" Class Driver's Licence to travel autonomously and remotely.
