About the Role
Financial Accountant in the ACT Long Service Leave Authority supports day‐to‐day financial operations and ensures statutory compliance under the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009 and the Financial Management Act 1996. The role reports to the Finance Manager.
Responsibilities
* Assist in managing day‐to‐day financial operations.
* Maintain budgets, financial statements, and cash flow reports.
* Oversee creditors and debtors, manage accounts payable and receivable.
* Support statutory and internal reporting obligations.
* Help manage assets, liabilities, fixed assets and leases, investment portfolio and debt management functions.
Eligibility / Other Requirements
The following capabilities are required.
Professional / Technical Skills and Knowledge
* Experience in developing and maintaining budgets, financial statements, cash flows, overseeing creditors and debtors, and statutory (tax) compliance.
* Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and ability to quickly acquire knowledge of government legislation.
* High level of computer literacy with competency in the use of financial systems and Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and accounting software.
* High attention to detail and strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.
Behavioural Capabilities
* Ability to prioritise work tasks and allocate resources to meet multiple deadlines with quality delivery under pressure.
* Well‐developed liaison, negotiation, written and oral communication skills and ability to foster productive working relationships with stakeholders, customers and colleagues.
* Understanding of public service values, ethical standards, and commitment to Respect, Equity and Diversity in the workplace along with WHS principles and practices.
Compliance Requirements / Qualifications
* Degree in accounting or a finance related discipline.
* Accounting qualifications (CPA Australia or CA) or working toward qualifications are highly regarded.
* Educational and professional qualification checks may be undertaken prior to employment.
Notes
This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of 12 months with the possibility of permanency. Selection is based on a written task and interviews. A Merit Pool will be established from the selection process and will be used to fill identical vacancies over the next 12 months.
