The opportunity

The Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) seeks a skilled laboratory diagnostic technician for a 12-month, full-time role in the bacteriology team. The position involves diagnostic microbiology and serology, including classical bacteriology, molecular assays, and serology-based assays such as ELISA, IFAT, and CFTS.

As a Lab Diagnostic Technician, you will deliver quality-assured diagnostic services, including disease surveillance, bacteriology, serology, health certification testing for exotic and infectious diseases, and testing for sterility of biological materials. The role requires working in biosafety level 3 laboratories and meeting security and microbiological safety standards.


High-level duties

* Support and deliver ISO 17025 quality diagnostic testing for bacterial, parasitic, and fungal pathogens, excluding emergency animal diseases.
* Contribute to quality assurance, including report generation, record keeping, and proficiency testing.
* Provide laboratory housekeeping and maintenance support.
* Complete tasks timely, prioritizing diagnostic workflows and assisting team activities.
* Assist team leaders and provide advice as needed.
* Work independently and collaboratively, including experimental design and implementation.


Role particulars

Location: Geelong, VIC

Salary: AU$96k - AU$109k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: 12 months, full-time

Candidate requirements

* Bachelor of Science (Hons) or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related field.
* Proven competence in laboratory diagnostic testing, especially microbiology or serology, preferably in animal health.
* Ability to plan and manage laboratory workflows and resolve complex problems.
* Experience working independently and in teams, with effective communication skills.
* Willingness to contribute innovative ideas to scientific investigations.
* Attention to detail in microbiology lab settings.
