We're Hiring: Senior Specialist Family Violence Practitioner
Location: Mackay, QLD
Classification: SCHADS Level 6
Employment Type: Full Time hours align with Mackay Police Station requirements: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Overview
This role provides a meaningful opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of women and children seeking safety and support. The Salvation Army (Salvos) offers services that support women and children impacted by family and domestic violence, including accommodation, counselling, support, behavioural programs, and advice to women and children at risk of, experiencing or escaping family violence. Our services focus on prevention, restoration, and healing, with specialised support to address immediate safety issues and provide referrals and connection to aid the recovery journey.
Join our dedicated Family Violence team as a Senior Specialist Practitioner in our Embedded Practitioner Model – a crucial initiative born from the "A Call for Change" Commission of Inquiry into Queensland Police Service responses to domestic and family violence. You will work closely with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety to reshape responses to family violence across Queensland.
Responsibilities
* Provide crisis intervention, including risk and needs assessments, and safety planning
* Deliver warm referrals for longer-term support services, ensuring continuity of care
* Build trust and rapport with victim-survivors to support police engagement
* Promote awareness of family violence, including power, gender dynamics, and control
* Strengthen partnerships with QPS and community organisations
* Manage a caseload of adult and child victim-survivors presenting with complex needs
* Support and guide staff through co-case management and mentoring
* Champion collaboration and continuous service improvement
What You'll Bring To The Role
* Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
* Minimum 3 years' experience in family violence services
* Understanding of the challenges faced by women and children affected by family violence
* Skilled in trauma-informed case management and safety planning
* Strong written, verbal, and digital communication skills
* Knowledge or experience in staff supervision (highly regarded)
* Current Queensland Driver's Licence
* Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
