About the Kimberly Centre for Remote Medical Training

Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) is a Commonwealth funded, end-to-end rural medical program based on the University’s Broome campus. KCRMT is one of the components that forms the University’s RHMT program which sits within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences. The aim of KCRMT is to contribute to strengthening the medical workforce in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. This is achieved through health research and the delivery of a fully accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that is supported by dedicated academic and professional staff based in the Kimberley.

The program will transform the Broome campus, Kimberley, and Pilbara regions and develop the medical workforce in the region

About the role


The KCRMT is one of the components that forms the University’s RHMT program with the aim to contribute to strengthening the medical workforce in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. This is achieved through health research and the delivery of a fully accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that is supported by dedicated academic and professional staff based in the Kimberley.


This position reports to the Associate Professor Aboriginal Health Team, National School of Medicine.

To perform this position, it is essential that the person be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is a genuine occupational qualification, under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. A pplicants are requested to demonstrate their Indigenous heritage in addition to addressing the selection criteria.


Key Responsibilities

* Maintain a record of high-quality achievement in teaching while contributing more broadly to curriculum innovation
* Contributions of a strategic nature to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation
* Demonstrate leadership in the use of digital technologies in teaching
* Evidence of impact in teaching and learning beyond own teaching practice, including through influencing others
* Promote and support learning in less experienced staff through mentoring, peer review and leadership roles (formal or informal)
* May be required to be wholly responsible for the coordination of a large program (e.g. program director role)
* Actively participate in, and where appropriate lead strategic committees within the discipline/school/division and University.
* Significant and sustained contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or professional practice in the discipline at the divisional, University and national level.
* Success in winning significant internal and external grants to support teaching projects and initiatives


Qualifications, skills & experience

* Advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area.
* A health professional in possession of a PhD or a Masters degree with 5 years teaching experience, or a Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and a Fellowship of a relevant professional body or significant progress towards.
* Experience in teaching at Masters level or higher or in medical, health or professional practice based education settings.
* In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard will be had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or technical achievement.
* Knowledge of contemporary Aboriginal Health Curriculum.
* Knowledge of Aboriginal people, culture, history, and community and how health impacts on Aboriginal people.

* be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
* identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
* be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived.

Supporting documentation may include, but is not limited to, a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.
