About the Team
The Emergency Department Switchboard at Coffs Harbour Health Campus is a small, dedicated team essential to the smooth operation of the hospital. Our team manages a high volume of internal and external calls, ensuring patients, staff, and health service providers are connected with the correct department or professional. The role is fast paced, often coordinating emergency responses such as code reds, and requires excellent communication, accuracy, and teamwork. The team culture is supportive, collaborative, and professional.
Role Purpose
Responsible for the efficient operation of the switchboard and paging system, ensuring calls are answered in a timely, courteous manner, with clear and concise communication. Provision of timely and efficient administrative services in line with current Mid North Coast Local Health District policies and procedures.
Key Accountabilities
* Act as the first point of contact by telephone, responding to enquiries and referring to the appropriate services, clinicians, or managers.
* Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, the general public, and health service providers.
* Maintain accurate and detailed phone and communication records in line with legislative requirements.
* Deliver timely, complete information to clinical staff to support safe patient care.
* Record and disseminate messages accurately and efficiently.
* Work in accordance with the Mid North Coast Local Health District policies and procedures and NSW Health Code of Conduct
About You
We are seeking a reliable and professional telephonist with experience providing administrative support and operating a busy switchboard. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with the ability to demonstrate an excellent telephone manner, communicating clearly, politely, and calmly in all situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential ensuring accuracy under pressure while supporting safe patient care, along with the ability to liaise confidently with stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), strong organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise tasks are required. The successful applicant will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
