The Nurture Team, a Neurodivergent-led practice, is supportive, tight knit and passionate about helping children flourish and grow, to give them a better shot at learning and build strong relationships to lead a fuller life. We predominantly work with children from our Beulah Park & Salisbury clinic with some school visits. We have a mixed caseload of NDIS Participants and private paying clients.
Neuroaffirming approaches are at the core of what we do. We are always learning more about the neurodiversity movement and from the neurodivergent community, changing the way we work to align better with neurodiversity affirming practices and be a strong ally for the neurodivergent community.
The Nurture team presume competence, respect sensory differences and body autonomy of children. Nurture aims to implement practices that are respectful, culturally competent, trauma-sensitive and empathetic. We do not use/encourage compliance training in therapy as it has been reported by the autistic community as trauma-inducing (often leading to PTSD). We adopt strength-based approaches and reporting (avoiding ableist language use), and work on neurodiversity affirming goals (such as self-advocacy).
In order to be able to provide quality neurodiversity affirming services, we have identified the strong need to better understand and support the sensory needs of the children we work with. The team will be built with a focus on sensory regulation and use of sensory integration approaches. We are keen on bringing on like-minded Occupational Therapists to the team so that we can better support the children we support and provide SPOT (joint Speech Pathology & Occupational Therapy) sessions.
