About the Role

As a key member of the Learning Leadership Team, the Head of Humanities provides strategic direction, pedagogical leadership, and operational oversight across the School’s Humanities Faculty from ELC to Year 12. The role oversees History, Geography, and Business, and works closely with the Dean of Learning Cultures and Innovation, the Dean of Studies, and department heads to shape curriculum, teaching practice, and faculty culture.

Humanities at Pembroke fosters critical thinking, global awareness, and ethical engagement. With offerings spanning PYP, ACARA, SACE and IB, the Faculty plays a key role in helping students understand the world, past and present. The Head of Humanities leads a collaborative and future-focused team, supporting innovation, academic excellence, and interdisciplinary learning across the School.

* Proven educational leadership experience, ideally in a faculty or departmental leadership role, with the capacity to lead diverse teams, drive strategic initiatives, and foster a collaborative and high-performing culture.
* Deep expertise in one or more Humanities disciplines (such as History, Geography, Business or related fields), along with a broad understanding of the Humanities landscape and current curriculum developments.
* A strong track record in curriculum development, assessment design and pedagogical innovation, with demonstrated experience aligning programs to PYP, Australian Curriculum, SACE, and/or IB frameworks.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with staff, students, parents, and external partners, and to build productive professional relationships across the school community.
* Well-developed organisational and operational capabilities, including experience with budgeting, planning, resourcing and data-informed decision making.
* A commitment to professional growth and learning, both for yourself and others, with the ability to mentor and support colleagues through change, improvement, and reflective practice.
