Offer description

Our client is a tight‐knit, highly specialized business based in Melbourne's west, renowned for designing and manufacturing high‐performance, bespoke pumping and mine dewatering packages. They pride themselves on precision engineering and robust, custom solutions for tough industrial environments.

About The Role

This is a permanent position for a Technical Writer who loves getting into the technical weeds of heavy machinery. You will be responsible for translating complex machinery designs into crystal‐clear, user‐friendly instructional, maintenance, and operational manuals for heavy‐duty pump systems. While 80% of your time will be focused on technical writing, documentation control, and illustration, the remaining 20% will involve project administration, assisting the engineering team, or supporting the business wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities

* Content Creation: Develop, write, and edit comprehensive operation, maintenance, and installation manuals for custom pump systems.
* Visual Documentation: Create and integrate clear, visually supported instructions including schematics, diagrams, exploded views, and flow charts.
* Collaboration: Liaise directly with engineers, workshop technicians, and subject‐matter experts to gather data and validate technical accuracy.
* Compliance & Control: Ensure all documentation aligns with WHS requirements, industry standards, and strict document control versioning.
* Supplementary Materials: Prepare quick‐reference guides, training documents, and service bulletins.

Skills & Experience Required

* Industry Experience: Proven background as a Technical Writer within manufacturing, specifically bespoke or built‐to‐order manufacturing – mining, heavy machinery, industrial pumping, or heavy engineering sectors ideal.
* Qualifications (Highly Beneficial): An engineering degree background is highly advantageous, as it will allow you to easily speak the language of the design team.
* Drafting Capabilities: Experience with drafting or technical illustration tools (to create/interpret schematics and exploded views) is a massive plus. Experience with SolidWorks preferred.
* Software Proficiency: Strong skills in documentation and publishing suites (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, MS Word, or equivalent).
* Communication: Flawless written English with a sharp eye for clarity, safety compliance, and usability.
* Mindset: A proactive, flexible attitude—someone who embraces the 20% "help the team" aspect of a close‐knit business.

At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
