About Cadia
Our Cadia Valley Operation in New South Wales is situated about 25 kilometres from Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold‑rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large‑scale underground mining method.

Who we’re looking for
We have an opportunity for an experienced Tailings Geotechnical Engineer to play a critical role in the governance and secure management of our tailings and water storage facilities. This position focuses on dam safety, regulatory compliance, and geotechnical monitoring to ensure the long‑term integrity of our operations.
You will be at the forefront of implementing the Dam Safety Management Plan (DSMP), driving governance excellence, and contributing to the continual improvement of tailings stewardship in alignment with ANCOLD, ICOLD and GISTM standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead implementation and improvement of the Dam Safety Management Plan (DSMP).
- Ensure compliance with legislation, permits and industry standards (ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM).
- Coordinate evidence for audits, inspections and reviews (EOR, ITRB).
- Maintain the Tailings & Water Risk Register and support periodic Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs).
- Manage governance actions from audits, inspections and investigations.
- Collate and maintain geotechnical data for dams and storage facilities.
- Conduct engineering observations and monitoring (visual, seepage, remote sensing).
- Implement and interpret advanced monitoring (radar, LiDAR, GPS, InSAR, drones).
- Assess slope stability and embankment integrity.
- Analyse tailings and water storage facility performance.
- Provide technical input to operational and capital planning.
- Develop and deliver geotechnical monitoring reports for stakeholders.
- Support training and awareness programmes to strengthen dam safety culture.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in geotechnical monitoring, analysis and reporting and will have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Additionally, you will also possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining or a related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in tailings management, dam safety or geotechnical engineering.
- Strong knowledge of ANCOLD/ICOLD guidelines and GISTM principles.
- Background in governance, risk management and regulatory compliance – highly regarded.
