About This Role
A casual Justice Officer, Prison Services position that offers an entry‐level opportunity within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). The role provides administrative support and advice to the Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct.
Salary: VPS Grade 2: $60,295 – $77,430 plus superannuation.
About the Business Unit
The Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct incorporates four custodial facilities located 6 km north‐west of Lara – the centre of Geelong and about 70 km from Melbourne. The four custodial facilities consist of two maximum security prisons (HM Prison Barwon and Western Plains Correctional Centre), a medium security prison (Marngoneet Correctional Centre) and a rehabilitation facility (Karreenga Annex). The BSW Prison Services Team provides both operational and administrative services to HMP Barwon, Marngoneet Correctional Centre and the Karreenga Annex.
Responsibilities
* Process prisoner monies and related financial transactions.
* Operate and manage the prisoner shop, including ordering and stock management.
* Facilitate goods inwards and outwards for the precinct.
* Handle general administrative tasks and prison‐and‐prisoner documentation.
* Maintain prisoner property stock levels and manage safe‐keeping of stored property.
* Process prisoner property requests.
* Contribute to the efficiency of the administrative function through business improvement initiatives.
* Monitor and liaise with customers, administrators, and prison staff on finance and stores issues.
* Provide quality financial and procurement services under the Financial Management Act 1994 and local operating procedures, under supervision.
Qualifications
* Well‐developed computer skills and proficiency in standard office software.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations.
* Proficiency in the use of software and standard office equipment.
