Temporary Full Time | Immediate start up to January 2027 | Cairns

Ready for a meaningful role that starts with a yarn? Charlene McCall (0447 654 ***) would love to hear your story and answer any questions you may have about the role.

Tell me more...Cairns is a vibrant tropical city where adventure, lifestyle, and opportunity come together effortlessly. Framed by the Great Barrier Reef and the ancient Daintree Rainforest, it offers world‑class activities like snorkeling, diving, hiking, and waterfall chasing right on your doorstep. The city's relaxed, outdoor-focused culture is balanced, making it an appealing place to live and work. With a warm climate year‑round, a lively waterfront, local markets, and a strong sense of community, Cairns is a place where work-life balance isn't just an idea, it's a way of life, perfectly blending fun, nature, and everyday living.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker plays a key role in supporting the development and delivery of a Cancer Care Navigation service for remote communities across Cape York and the Torres Strait. Working closely with the Project Manager, the role focuses on stakeholder and community engagement to ensure culturally safe and appropriate cancer care. This includes understanding and documenting cultural beliefs around illness, death, and dying to inform the creation of tailored resources and guide the service model. The position contributes to broad consultation with community members, health services, and partner organisations to help shape a sustainable model of care, and then supports the rollout and ongoing delivery of cancer care services across the TCHHS region.

Under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.

Professional and personal motivators!

As an Indigenous Health Worker, your advocacy for local Torres and Cape patients is vital in ensuring culturally sensitive and effective health care.

You'll work in diverse and supportive environments that offer attractive lifestyle opportunities and experiences and enable you to make a valuable contribution in small communities. These communities will help you grow, connect, learn and create life-defining experiences that will shape who you are as a health professional and a person.

Torres and Cape will give you a career with purpose, plus excellent benefits and allowances;

* Base salary comprising between $101,511, - $119,674 p.a – you may be eligible for additional benefits – refer to Workplace benefits | Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service
* Competitive salary packaging: Generous employer superannuation contribution of 12.75% and salary packaging options Salary and benefits | Careers (health.qld.gov.au)
* Generous leave entitlements including 17.5% loading on annual leave

Living within the Torres and Cape region means you will be able to enjoy:

* Immersing yourself in nature, from the outback to tropical rainforests, coral reefs and extraordinary landscapes.
* Short commute to work, allowing greater work/life balance
* Rich Indigenous Culture
