About The Role
Our Utilities Client is seeking a GIS Architect. This is a long‐term contract role offering 50 days of effort between March–May 2026, with the possibility of further extension, located at our client's Mitchell, Canberra office (onsite).
As The Selected Candidate, You Will
* Conduct a comprehensive review of the current GIS environment and supporting infrastructure
* Assess cost‐efficiency and feasibility of various hosting models (AWS, ESRI Managed Services, on‐prem)
* Evaluate technical, operational, financial, and risk factors across alternative GIS hosting approaches
* Develop evidence‐based architectural findings to support hosting strategy and AWS architecture assessment
* Analyse suitability and long‐term value of ESRI Managed Services as a potential target operating model
* Provide structured architectural comparison between ESRI Managed Services, AWS, and on‐prem environmentsProduce formal assessment reports and present outcomes to governance groups
* Engage with technical SMEs and business stakeholders to validate assumptions and ensure alignment with organisational goals
To Be Successful In This Role You Should Have
* Demonstrated experience in GIS architecture and hosting models (AWS, ESRI Managed Services, on‐prem)
* Strong background in enterprise GIS platforms, ideally ESRI ArcGIS and Utility Network Model (UNM)
* Ability to deliver impartial, evidence‐based architectural assessments
* Proven experience supporting large‐scale migration or transformation programs
* Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
* Ability to manage competing deliverables and meet strict deadlines
It Is Desirable If You Have
* Previous experience in UNM migration projects
* Exposure to utilities, infrastructure, or government environments
* Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and cloud strategy alignment
