About the Department

The Pacific Strategic Communications Section (SCS) within PSD informs and shapes strategic communications across DFAT and government. In this high-priority role you will: deploy your highly developed strategic communications and stakeholder engagement skills to develop persuasive campaigns and content, in collaboration with other areas of government, DFAT's overseas posts and international partners, and provide strategic advice to the executive and ministerial offices.

Key Duties

* Provide strategic communication advice to the Senior Executive, contributing to and supporting the delivery of policy priorities in the Pacific
* Support Pacific posts to implement OTP's strategic communications priorities and deliver key strategic communications campaigns
* Actively identify gaps and opportunities to project, influence or amplify strategic messages, based on high quality analysis and professional judgement
* Lead and manage communication projects that impact strategic outcomes, in partnership with others across OTP, the Department, Pacific posts and whole-of-government partners
* Contribute to high-quality communication products, including talking points, scripts, op-eds, speeches, web and social media content
* Balance competing priorities, provide expert advice and recommendations, and build capacity in the team, including through knowledge sharing
* Develop and manage a range of stakeholder relationships, both internal and external
* Represent DFAT to external stakeholders and Australia when overseas.

Essential Attributes / Skills / Experience

* Experience in media, public diplomacy or strategic communications.
* Experience in devising and implementing communications campaigns and projects.
* Sharp writing skills, strategic acumen and policy judgement.
* Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
* Demonstrates a strong understanding of Australia's geostrategic challenges, core interests, and priorities in our region.
* Fosters effective teamwork and promotes a positive, professional, and inclusive organisational culture.
* Experience and knowledge of monitoring and evaluation.
