Job Description

As a skilled Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of water and wastewater infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-level technical investigations, reviews, and advisory services related to mechanical aspects of water and wastewater assets.

You will be responsible for designing, reviewing, and optimizing mechanical systems across the asset base, including pumping stations, treatment works, pipelines, mechanical equipment, filtration, and disinfection systems. You will also develop and refine systems development plans, asset management strategies, and lifecycle cost plans for mechanical assets.

In addition, you will plan, conduct, and coordinate audits and compliance reviews against water/wastewater standards; identify remediation actions and drive implementation. You will provide expert advisory support to project teams, operations, and senior management; contribute to technical governance and design assurance processes.

Furthermore, you will mentor and coach junior engineers; share knowledge through reviews, workshops, and technical notes. You will engage with regulators, contractors, and stakeholders; ensure conformance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need a degree in Mechanical Engineering; Chartered status (or equivalent) is highly preferred. You will have years of mechanical engineering experience in the water/wastewater sector or closely related industrial settings.

Strong background in mechanical design, performance modelling, pump/piping systems, rotating equipment, valves, treated water/wastewater processes, and associated instrumentation and controls is required. Knowledge of relevant standards and codes for water and wastewater, risk management, and asset lifecycle practices is essential.

Proficiency with design and engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD/3D CAD, BIM where applicable) and hydraulic modelling software; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
