Lecturer (EF) Rural, Clinical Skills & Simulation- Port Macquarie

- Employment Type: Part - time (3.5 hours a week)
- Duration: Fixed Term contract until 30th June 2026
- Remuneration: $127,947 base pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation, leave loading and clinical loading
- Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.

UNSW Rural (Port Macquarie)

brings world-class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6-year medical course at our rural campuses across several locations. Face-to-face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with and benefit from more personal interaction with clinicians and other academics and become a part of the local medical community. UNSW's program has strongly supported the aims of the, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25-years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience.

Details of the role

UNSW's Education Focussed (EF) roles enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialism will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university's teaching and learning communities.

The role of Lecturer, Rural will be committed to high quality teaching with a demonstrated interest in local rural medical education, health issues and projects. This position holder will make a significant contribution to the undergraduate medical education program at the campus, with a strong focus on the application of 'Basic Sciences in Clinical Medicine' and/or 'Multidisciplinary Care and Clinical Skills Techniques and application' to deliver comprehensive patient care as a team in multi-disciplinary clinical environments.

The position of Lecturer reports to the Director of Medical Education at the identified campus and has no direct reports.

Some key skills required:

- A BMedMD, MBBS and a Fellowship of a Specialist Medical College and eligible for medical registration in New South Wales, and/or a qualification in a relevant health discipline and maintenance of currency in registration from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning and encourages student immersion in the local rural medical and health environment.
- Prepare and deliver rurally focussed content in lectures, tutorials and small group teaching, as appropriate, assessing learning achievements, marking, examining and pursuing opportunities to innovate in learning activities for basic sciences, clinical course work and skills development.
- Using a range of suitable approaches, support student learning progression in clinical skills techniques and application, provide expert guidance and advice on the benefits of multidisciplinary healthcare teams to improve outcomes for both patients and health professionals, and assess student learning achievements.
- Develop and pursue local research initiatives with the LHD and primary health care networks and supervise Independent Learning Project (ILP) students, as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with peers across the Rural Clinical Campuses and Faculty, developing significant productive relationships and partnerships.
- Support the recruitment of rural students in the Rural Entry Admissions Pathway (REAP) including associated interview training and participation in medicine student entry interviews at rural campuses.
- Demonstrated record of achievement and effectiveness in practical teaching and supervision at undergraduate level with a proven commitment to rural medical and health education.
- Demonstrated experience in large and small group teaching, and ability to apply knowledge and teaching methodologies in health education including online delivery and the use of educational technologies.
- Highly developed communication and organisational skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff, including in a team environment.
