District‑Wide Leadership in Safe Staffing Implementation

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Nurse Manager Grade 5 (Temporary Full Time) to lead the implementation of safe staffing levels across Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). This role will play a key leadership function in delivering NSW Health Safe Staffing initiatives and government commitments across NSLHD facilities, with a strong focus on emergency nursing services. Working closely with local facilities, executives, and key stakeholders, the role will ensure consistent, effective implementation of safe staffing models while supporting workforce sustainability through innovative recruitment and retention strategies.

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time until 27 June 2027 (with the possibility of ongoing employment)

Where you'll be working

The role is based in the Vanderfield Building, on-site at Royal North Shore Hospital Campus and is required to travel across NSLHD sites.

What You'll Be Doing

The Nurse Manager will work with the Ministry of Health SSL team to manage the implementation of SSL in the Local Health District. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and change management processes across the LHD that facilitate the effective implementation of SSL.

The role will be pivotal in supporting NSLHD in the implementation of SSL through the following initiatives:

Lead the implementation of safe staffing levels across NSLHD facilities in line with NSW Health policies, initiatives, and government commitments.
Partner with local nursing leadership, facilities, and executive teams to support successful rollout and ongoing evaluation.
Develop and implement innovative recruitment and retention strategies, with a focus on attracting and retaining emergency nurses
Provide data analysis, reporting, and insights to support decision‑making and track implementation progress.
Prepare clear, timely briefings and communications for executive stakeholders.
Act as a key point of contact for safe staffing implementation across the district.

Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria

Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Extensive recent management experience with experience in leading staff and managing services in the relevant setting, supported by a relevant tertiary management qualification and/or relevant work experience.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with all health team members involved in the change process, and to represent the organisation at a local level.
Demonstrated experience in managing key priorities and delivering successful strategies to deliver service outcomes within tightly defined resources.
Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking to set goals, formulate plans and policies to achieve identified outcomes.
