The Department of Education provides legal services to support delivery of education across Victoria, including advisory to over 1,600 government schools and 650,000 students. The Legal Division’s Commercial Law Unit offers a key role for lawyers to provide specialist commercial legal advice in procurement, negotiation and management of contracts for schools and the corporate department.
About the role Senior Lawyers in the Commercial Law Unit contribute to the provision of specialist, technical and strategic legal advice on commercial law matters and risk management. The successful candidates will have strong legal skills with expertise in advising on commercial legal issues and documenting and settling commercial transactions.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic support in procurement, negotiation and management of contracts, service agreements, funding agreements and other commercial documents.
Offer advice before going to market, including tailoring standard documents, supporting supplier selection through requests for contract departures, assessment of best and final offers.
Negotiate and draft contracts and manage post-contract issues, primarily relating to disputes.
Contribute to the delivery of the department’s key reforms and strategic objectives while managing legal risk.
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant university qualifications in law or a related field.
Direct experience in program design and delivery is highly desirable.
