Austin Pathology provides diagnostic pathology services to metropolitan and regional health networks.- An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Microbiology Department as a Medical Technician Grade 1 (Year 1 up to Year 8, depending on skills and experience).**About the Microbiology Department**:
- Microbiology utilises state of the art automation and technologies as well conventional manual methodology to generate clinically valuable information for diagnosis and treatment of infections.**About the role**:
- This position is for a **Medical Laboratory Technician (Grade 1) in Microbiology Department, full time fixed term **(due to maternity leave).-
**Essential knowledge and skills**
- To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:
- Relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory including specimen set up
- Competency using a range of relevant computer software
- Good communication skills & ability to work efficiently both independently & in a team
- Demonstrable time management skills with an ability to prioritise and cope with stressful situations, and changing work environment.
- Experience with use of various microbiology laboratory automation systems such as Kiestra WCA, MALDI-TOF, Atellica Urine Analyser, Bactec Blood Culture System, Vitek Antibiotic Susceptibility Test System, BD Max PCR (highly considered)
- Availability to work 24/7 rotating shifts, through day and afternoon-evening shifts; weekdays, weekends, and public holiday. Applicants should also be available to work overnight shift if required. Availability(once trained) to work mostly or frequent afternoon-evening shifts would be considered favourably.
