About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Diesel Fitter, HRT Mechanic or HV Mechanic to join our team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, proven experience in servicing and repairing heavy vehicles, and the ability to work effectively in a small team within a fast-paced environment. Relocation Assistance is provided due to this Role being based in Rockhampton.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform servicing, maintenance, and mechanical repairs on heavy road transport vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and associated equipment.
* Performing full chassis strip‑downs in preparation for diagnostics, repairs, or rebuilds
* Assisting with complete truck rebuilds, including component removal, inspection, and refit
* Identifying faults during strip‑downs and reporting required repairs or parts replacement
* Cleaning, organising, and staging components for reassembly to maintain workflow efficiency
* Working with senior technicians to rebuild driveline, suspension, and chassis components to specification
* Ensuring all chassis and structural parts are correctly torqued, aligned, and reinstalled after testing or repair
* Diagnose, troubleshoot, and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
* Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
* Liaise with Managers and department Team Leaders to support efficient workflow and minimise downtime.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and job timeframes.
* Contribute to a positive team culture and provide guidance and support to apprentices.
Requirements:
* Trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (or Diesel Mechanic).
* Strong mechanical knowledge and problem‑solving ability.
* Experience working on heavy road transport equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
* HR licence, forklift licence, and other high‑risk tickets (desirable).
* Competent computer literacy (Outlook, Word).
* Strong time management, attention to detail, and a proactive work ethic.
* Willingness to undertake a pre‑employment medical, including drug & alcohol screening.
