Overview
Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a motivated and high-functioning Research Assistant to join the Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre and support the Rural Emergency Department – Nurse Practitioner (RED‑NP) Study. Working as an integral member of a small, dynamic research team, you will provide high-level research and administrative support to the Chief Investigator and study team, supporting the planning, implementation and day‑to‑day management of a large, multi‑site research project across two Local Health Districts.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate the day‑to‑day running of the RED‑NP Study, including monitoring timelines, scheduling meetings, coordinating interviews and focus groups, and tracking budgets.
* Provide high‑level administrative and research support to ensure successful delivery of the project.
* Liaise and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, collaborators and partners, representing HNELHD professionally.
* Support ethics and governance processes, including preparation of submissions, amendments and progress reports for HREC, NSW MoH and funding bodies.
* Assist with data collection, database management and basic quantitative and/or qualitative analysis.
* Conduct periodic audits to ensure research integrity and compliance with NHMRC guidelines and regulatory requirements.
* Support preparation of reports, publications and conference presentations.
* Act in accordance with the HNE Health Values Charter, NSW Health Code of Conduct and Closing the Gap strategy.
About You – Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive demonstrated experience in a relevant discipline.
* Previous experience in clinical, public health or health services research.
* Strong skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research, including data management, basic analysis and report writing.
* Experience with ethics and governance submissions.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across a broad range of stakeholders.
* Highly developed organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
* Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, medical databases (Medline, PubMed, Embase) and REDCap.
* Excellent academic writing skills, with evidence of contributing to reports, publications or presentations.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small, high‑performing team.
* A flexible, compliance‑focused approach and willingness to take initiative.
